Rob, What type of amp/setup are you using to get your Bass tone? It sounds great!

Re: 10-String-Stick Straight-4ths Tuning
Can't wait to hear what comes of this. Rob and I talked about mirrored 4ths way back when I had my first Stick, and I've been intrigued ever since. So as we talked about in private, I culled together a set of strings for my bass side and have the exact same tuning you came up with, D G C F Bb. I left my melody side as is in RMR, so D A E B F#. I had a great time playing with this today, but I did have some hand clashing so I may want to rethink how I can mirror a 10 string and get a custom set. Actually it's not really mirrored as much as it is inverted 4ths. Rob, if you're out there do you have any suggestions? Greg? Thanks much!

How often do you use the high string? If not very often, then I'd suggest dropping the melody side down a 4th to Baritone Melody. This will really minimize your hand clashing, and you can still get high notes by playing higher up the board, which is much easier on the instruments with Rails than on those with conventional guitar frets...
If you are worried about how high yo can get, listen to this video, played on a Baritone Melody Railboard:

Thanks! I wish I remembered!
Around that time I was playing though a Fishman SoloAmp, sometimes with a POD HD500 in the effects loop. To my ears it sounds like it's just some reverb and possibly a bit of chorus, running direct to the computer - just not sure if the effects are coming from the Fishman/POD or plug-ins on the computer. I always use the PASV-4 with both pickups enabled and in phase, with the filter all or mostly engaged (rolls off high end, more energy in low midrange).

Thanks Greg, love that song, and that may be high enough for what I want to do. Much appreciated.

Mirrored Fourths (on a 10-String)
[...] My new tuning is this:

New Bass 4ths Tuning 6. D 7. G 8. C 9. F 10. Bflat
[...] Here's a Greggy question: If I was going to try to do the mirrored 4ths on a 10-string, instead of the parallel fourths, would I want to just order a 12-string mirrored 4ths set and throw away the bottom melody string and the top bass string, or would a different set make more sense for a 10-string solution? I'd have no problem changing out all of the strings for that--I just wanted to minimize changes to my current setup and I only had the one string set to pull from. And I'd like to keep the fat strings where they are on the Sticks (and keep them where they are on my bass-fourth-tuned NS/Stick.) I seem to have no problem changing between bass fourths and mirrored 4ths.
So, a quick update on the status of the mirror fourths. Cambria never got with me about the parallel 4ths string set, and I haven't followed up because I've discovered that mirrored 4ths is working for me (thanks for the suggestion to try it Greg, Kris, Scott, and others!) I realized that the fingering between the two hands is still exactly the same as in parallel fourths, but I have to get the string changing that is "backwards" down. Still a little more work to come on that. Either hand alone is just fine--but playing them together, I have to really think about which string to switch to on either hand.
My hands seem separated by just enough space to allow both hands to get on it. I can also move up and over to find another spot where the right hand can have room to noodle--like Greg suggests, higher up the neck. I've been really getting on some blues lately, with a call and response back and forth between the two hands and the two registers 2 octaves apart.
I'd like to order a string set for this tuning. I still have the above "Greggy" question: can I order a set of strings for this tuning, or is the 12-string mirrored 4ths set (and then throw away 2 strings) a better way to go?

The 12-string mirrored 4ths set has a low E not a low D, so you would need to order a custom set. Did you just want to get the bass set right now?

Oh, that's right--Rob mentioned his tuning started at E. Yes, I'd like just the bass side but starting at the D. I like the range and the separation between the hands. I still have a spare set of strings for the melody side in MR (once I put back string #5 that I borrowed, it will be back to new.)
I'd like to give that a whirl, and if it keeps clicking, then I'll start working on the Railboard tuning, although leaving one Stick in Bass 5ths seems prudent. I already started on the Rosewood, so let's get that bass side set of strings please in D G C F Bflat.
And then I'll start saving up the pennies for a 12-string...

Re: 10-String-Stick Straight-4ths Tuning
It's on! Changed my Cambria order from parallel strings to mirrored strings, based on the fine advice from you fine, fine people (Greg and Rob especially!) Just ordered two sets of bass-side strings tuned in 4ths starting with D. That's either an extra set for the Rosewood, or a set for the Railboard as well if I like it (I already know I like it from my own experiment.)
I just want to say, as a keyboardist who is just a 6-string guitar chord plunker, I was not coming from 4ths tuning. It's as new to me as the 5ths tuning was. I hate the scale patterns on regular guitar and all I know are chords.
And on Stick, I didn't really struggle with the 5ths tuning. But mirrored fourths (and bass 4ths on the NS/Stick) have just been BUTTER. If you really, really like some butter with your jam. My favorite new thing in the whole world is the 1 4; 1 2 3; 1 3 pattern of a standard blues scale. On either side of the fretboard. At the same time. At 456 BPM! (I might be exaggerating just a wee bit).
I'll get some video up soon. I'm pretty happy with the Stick journeys lately, which are way more important than any ultimate destination! I'm sure there's more than a few more twists and turns (that tritone tuning!)
Here's my new tunings and then string sizes for medium gauge mirrored 4ths on the bass side.
Melody (unchanged from MR) 1. C 2. G down a 4th 3. D down a 4th 4. A down a 4th 5. E down a 4th
New Bass Mirrored 4ths Tuning (Thanks, Greg, for the sizes and help!)

So those gauges are for a regular 10 string Stick, correct? What would be appropriate for a Railboard?
I retuned my RMR set to a mirrored 4ths tuning to try it out, and I seem to gravitate towards it myself (I have worked with some straight 4ths tunings in the past on the guitar as well). I know proper gauges will improve the playability, any advice Greg? Would it also mainly be a matter of buying the correct strings for the bass side?
