Usually, videos like this don’t deliver. This worked for me (on the melody side at least). Anthony Wellington teaches at Victor Wooten’s camp in Nashville. I may be taking a trip there soon.

Re: All The Modes In Less Than An Hour
I watched the entire video and played along on the 8-string NS/Stick, tuned in bass fourths. Anthony Wellington is a great teacher. I swear to the gods of music theory that I've always hated modes, and talking about modes. From a piano background, I knew there was only ONE TRUE SCALE, and modes were just starting and stopping at different places along it. But that was really a shite understanding when it comes to doing it on a stringed instrument.
Approaching this from a stringed instrument perspective, this really is some subtle and awesome genius at work here. I have to internalize this and play with this, but this is genius. Very understandable and intuitive.
Whichever line you start at, keep going until you wrap around and end up where you started. I really, really got it. I don't know about application, but Anthony said don't worry about application until you understand it all.
Thanks so very much for sharing! Yes, these type of videos are often over-promised but this one delivered! I truly think I got it for stringed instruments (tuned in fourths).
I am so glad it was helpful! The video blew me away for all the reasons you mentioned. I stop myself while playing to figure out what mode I am in and keep a cheat sheet of MILLPAD nearby. After a little bit it sinks in.
To clarify, when I say most videos like this don’t deliver, I am talking about the YouTube videos entitled “The Super Secret Trick To Playing Like Yngwie” or whomever. This video gets the modes under your fingers in a very intuitive way. Figuring out how and when to use them is another kettle of fish.

Re: All The Modes In Less Than An Hour
Thanks for sharing this Jacubert I get it. Bob Culbertson explained this to us at Interlochen but I kinda got it then but this guy explains it so well. Once he said while step whole step 3 times and said the first scale was mixolydian I got it. Bingo. Mill pad is excellent. Never thought if that. Perfect. Now to go try it out for real. Thanks for sharing. And I’ll check out the other video suggested when I get home armydoc.
Thanks for posting the links and other info! I had not scene Josh’s video nor did I know about Bob’s material on the concept. I will check them out. MILLPAD is a great way to figure out where you are.
