 Re: notation
At the risk of feeding this troll, I would still like to set the record straight for future searches on this issue. Notation for the Stick can be accomplished in many ways. My favorite Chapman Stick notation system is StaffTab(TM). This notation system is Trademarked, but, there are no licensing issues. I think that Greg just wants a bit of attribution, which is a very reasonable request for this great idea and system. To notate for Stick with StaffTab you have many options. I like the completely free software Lillypond, http://lilypond.org/web/, but, it has a long learning curve and you would probably want to use the library of functions that I'm developing that aren't done yet. You can also use Finale with the custom font you can find here: http://www.arthurdurkee.net/stickfonts.html. I think the font will work with Sibelius, too. The Chapman Stick and Freehands system that were developed by Emmett Chapman in the 60s and 70s, and then refined into the incredible instruments that are being manufactured today, are the first fully realized new way to make music that has come along in a very long time. I'm having the most fun and most musical satisfaction of my life using this instrument. Music is infinite, there's enough for everyone. -Eric

 Re: notation
What exactly is being asked here? Take a standard musical score and convert it into something like a tab score for the stick? Me confused.... Randy

However, whether it's tab, standard, or StaffTab, music for the Chapman Stick can be notated just like any other instrument. The OP has not come back so we may never know. -Eric

 Re: notation
The question is: Is there a program that can help me with notation? ? I like the stafftab notation. I can draw with a pencil on a blank staff sheet but it might be easier on a computer...
Eric, thanks for the links!
Locks, Stringtapper, I don't get your points...
best regards, Victor

 Re: notation
I use Finale and installed the StaffTab fonts which you can find at http://www.arthurdurkee.net/fonts.html (scroll all the way down). I think any notation software that will let you change the noteheads will do just fine. But there isn't anything specifically designed for StaffTab so there will still be a little manual-like labor involved.

best regards, Victor Hi, Victor. Welcome to the forum. We are just a bit sensitive to people using forum posts to denigrate the Stick and market other products. Some people, including me, thought you might be one of them. Appears that we were wrong and I offer my apologies. As Glenn just said, there are several options, but, you will need to do some extra work with all of them. Do you have notation software already? -Eric

 Re: notation
Hi Victor. I think this was what made people think you were being a smartass. Put it aside, and let me say that you can use any graphics program to generate StaffTab. If you know what you want to write, it's pretty easy to generate the elements. The hardest things are probably the clefs and noteflags. A notation program would be the best, though. I use Finale (an old version for now, but upgrading soon), and it makes it pretty easy. For my songbook, I'm implementing a few minor improvements that should make the notation a little less "dense", especially having to do with articulations. Back to work!
