Post Railboard stereo cable local/quick source?
Hello... I've recently gotten back to playing my railboard after a long pause.
Unfortunately all my cables and 95% of my gear are packed for an upcoming move. I'm hoping I can get a stereo cable quickly, possibly from Amazon? guitar center?.. The cable seems to be the same as an insert cable for a mixer. The tip and ring on one end going to two mono cables..

Any ideas?

Thanks

Lots of them on Amazon. Here's an example.

It is exactly an insert cable for a mixer. Just much longer than what you'd find in stock in most stores. You should be able to get one of adequate length online though.

That is correct and all good info here so far. A shorter cable will generally provide a more pure signal, so 3m or 10' should be adequate.

Hosa is an entry level option at $9.

ProCo are a respectable choice and they color code tip and ring nicely, $32.

And at the top end, at only 2m or 6' is a Mogami gold. A big selling point is the Neutrik plug, allowing the cable to be more easily repaired. Which is good because it's $80 before tax and shipping.

(edited for syntax and hyperlinks)

Funny thing about instrument cables. I could actually hear the difference in tone between different guitar cables. I took them apart to find out what the actual difference was and discovered that the cables with tons of tiny strands were the ones that sounded better.

Apparently, a signal only travels on the surface of a wire (skin effect) and not thru the entire conductor. With more strands, there's more surface area for the signal to travel on and that's what I was hearing. So, not only does the length matter, the quality of the cable matters too.

Correct, quality is a part of the value equation and not all cables are created equally.

The OP mentioned that the intent was to obtain one quickly which is why I listed links to three different cables of varying cost, quality and length.

The "skin effect" is typically considered for very high frequencies, like RF, mhz, etc not low frequencies like audio. A real issue is cable capacitance which attenuates high audio frequencies.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I found one on Amazon that should work.
