Re: New Stick Tech video: comparing the Stickup, ACTV-2 & PA
When I read the email from Stick Enterprises, I knew Cambria didn't read this forum or read the comments on YouTube (i.e. she would have known I have already seen the video). At some point, I may try to make an adapter to mount a Stickup in a Block channel. The PASV-4 is a great modern pickup, but there will always be good reasons for having the option of lower output pickups.

I've been thinking about an adapter plate, too. My Stickup Stick has fret rods, and my other Stick has fret rails and an X fret. The fret rods are very nive and smooth for 'acoustic stule' playing, whereas the rails are great for wilder electric stule playing. Would be cool to be able to use the Stickup in combination with the rails Jaap

Brett Bottomley wrote: Thanks for posting Greg. This is a great addition to the stick buyers handbook. Did you mention the high 4th tuning in the video? Hi Brett, I'm using the high bass 4th these days. I love those easy #9 and 13 chords in the left hand for the Power Duo and UpTet gigs.

grozoeil wrote: Very nice video, that confirm that the Stickup is the premium choice for every serious player Very useful video, thanks for taking the time to record it. And that cheap Boss Metal Zone has indeed an incredible sound, I'll pick one up soon Bruno, you are brutal to the ACTV-2 fans! I really like the ACTV-2 as well. It's basic sound is so warm and fluid. If I could have all three pickups on the instrument at one time, I would for sure. Listining to Bob Culbertson and Kevin Keith is all you need to do to get a sense of it. It's very "unifying" kevin-c wrote: sheesh....that stickup sounds nifty! nice vid Greg, thanks for posting.
cheers, kev But yes, The Stickup does sound nifty indeed... The right preamping stage makes all the difference with it though, especially on the melody side. I finally settled on the StepABout, but I've had many over the years that did almost as good a job, including the Rane SP-13, Focusrite Green, TC ToneBooster, etc. This is less critical with the PASV-4 and not at all critical with the ACTV-2, which sounds the same no matter what you plug it into. As a listener on videos and recorsings, too often I hear the direct Stickup with a bad eq setting, which can make it pretty brittle pretty fast. So think about the basic sound you're looking for and do what you can to get it as "close to the pickup" as possible. Greg
Thanks so much for the video - Your explanation of the knobs for the PASV-4 was very helpful.
The tone and pickup selector knobs have been a mystery to me so far - not any more.
Has anyone made side pictures of the PASV-4 showing the positions numbered and their functions?
Cliff

Cliff Hi Cliff. Glad you liked it. There's a description of the knobs and their functions here: http://www.stick.com/instruments/pickups/pasv4/
