I love the melodic thing at about 2:35. I could hear a lot more of that.
My thing now is to go for being both colorful and atonal. If the melody is atonal then the chords are lush. If the progressions are atonal then the melody fits a mode of some kind. Rhythms could go in and out of phase somehow too for something in the rhythm to match what's going on with the pitch side of things.
