For me the SoftStep is just a bit problematic if you're looping. The switches are soft (hence the name

) so if you're doing loops where the timing is real critical, it can be hard to get them just right. If you find yourself on carpeting, it can exacerbate the problem.
I hear you though. I use a Rocktron All Access (now it's called the Midi Raider) and while I still think it's one of the best controllers ever made, the switches are loud and it bothers me in quieter rooms.
I'm considering trying out the Nektar Pacer. It looks like it will give me the timing I want with quiet switches. Plus its USB powered (as is the SoftStep).
