Here is a video where I use an EBow on what was a fretted tapping instrument converted to fretless.

@psc64 In case you're not aware, those instruments @rwkeating is playing in the video are not modded or prototype Sticks, they are tapping instruments that he designed & built himself!

So... have any of you seen any cool custom/modded Sticks? Prototypes? Blanks? Perhaps you even have one?

From the top of my head... One of the books I had (Greg's?) had a photo of a transparent lucite Stick, but I haven't seen any other mentions of it, it would be cool to learn more/see better pics.

A guy in Moscow had an early Stick Bass with only 7 strings (I think it was for sale on the forum for a while).

Boris Bazurov had a custom Stick with a gusli (zither) on the side. AFAIR it was built by another luthier but with SE's permission (found it https://www.stickist.com/viewtopic.php?p=70193#p70193)

I've seen a 38" Stick on the internet (and that's from 34" era!): https://ridgewoodchronicles.wordpress.c ... -for-sale/ (it's a little sad to look at those prices from 2024)

Additionally, I've always wanted to see what a Stick blank looks like. There is a picture of one on the SE website, but I haven't ever seen anything else

I had a photo of a stack of blanks at Emmett's home, but I cannot find it now.

(oh and... hi everyone)

That would the the SB7, which was sold for a month or so back in the early 90s!

Very cool! That honestly does look quite heavy, though... lol
I wonder how it sounds!

That's unfortunate, but still very cool!

Does SB7 #1012 still exist ? Two previous owners other than myself.

It's so weird to see such a thin Stick. Same thing with the 14 string, never seen a fretboard that wide before.

Did you also own #1012? I'm sure it's still out there.

Post Re: Modded/prototype Sticks?
talking about mods... I've always experimented with pickups on my Sticks and basses.
Here are 2 of the mods. The one on the Stick has more or less the standard PASV4 wiring, but the position of the pickups is more like that of a Stickup. It does sound more similar to Stickup than the standard PASV-4. The pickup selector is different than standard: neck coil only - neck with a bit of bridge - both - bridge with a bit of neck - bridge only. During the time I made it, the toolshop of the company I work for bought a new CNC milling machine and they needed a test object. So, I designed the housing in CAD and they milled it out of a block of POM.
The other one has a 3D printed housing and 3 EMG's. It should have been 3 EMG FT's, but I mistakenly ordered a Strat type pickup for one of them. It's more or less an ACTV2, but with 2 bass pickups.

Here are examples of both pickups:

Interesting. Just out of curiosity, how did it play compared to - say - a standard 10/12 string?
