Post Stick adapter for NS Design stand
I've been thinking about stands over 20 years, and previously posted my "plumber's mount" pipe Stick stand. But I have been trying to think of something that might look better in performance (other than at a steam punk exhibit at Comicon). I figured it's better to let a professional designer/engineer make the actual stand part of it, and try to mount the Stick on it. And I thought the NS Design stands for their upright electric bases should be sturdy enough to do the job. (I know others have thought along these lines and some have executed some clever designs as well.) So for this, I've made a "puck":

To mount the Stick like this:

The part is CNC machined anodized aluminum. It's rather sturdy, even with the NXT double bass stand from NS design (the CR stand is reportedly more stable). The trick is to spread the feet as far apart as possible, and have one foot directly underneath the headstock. But the part will fit on most NS Design support systems for the upright base.

To be continued...

Unfortunately, attaching this part to the Stick means removing the belt hook, which I think is an important part of the Stick that gives it an ergonomic advantage over other instruments. So I've also designed parts to connect the belt hook to the "puck:"

The shorter peice should work with most Sticks, while the taller peice is specifically for the Railboard. These are made with Green Tech Pro Carbon, a polycarbon-like material that is plant based and environmentally friendly. They are attached via a knurled knob thumb screw in order to change quickly from the belt hook to the stand, etc.

I haven’t tried this yet, but it should be possible to still have a Lap Dawg attached to the belt hook when using these parts for the option of sitting and playing. Perhaps other peices could be attached as well to increase functionality.

I got my son Makoto and his girlfriend Kaede to model the part as they are thinner and better looking than me:

I haven’t decided on a name, but the “Puck” is an obvious choice (and those living in colder climates may appreciate that the Stick makes contact with a Puck). Other options are just the Disc, and the DisGO (“’Dis go on ya Stick”). To go along with the "StickUp," Steve Addelson suggested "RoundUp," although it may be better to avoid confusion with another product with that name. I haven’t thought of a name for the belt hook connector.

I would appreciate any feedback. I am considering selling these with a target price of $50 for the Puck and $25 for the belt hook connector, if there is enough interest.

Brilliant. I have on two occasions stopped by to talk about the prospect of attaching the NS Stick to the same stand that we use to attach the NS bass to.

But I never thought it could be done with the Chapman Stick!

So it looks like the holes that were drilled for the belt hook provide the connection for the Puck and that the instrument can then attach to the stand using the Puck. Another great option for playing in a standing position.

For me, the convenience of playing in a standing position cannot be overstated. When it's there on demand, I just play more and that in and of itself is good enough in between work and kids and all.

Looking forward to trying it out Rick - good show man!

That is beautiful. Well done Rick.

Small, neat, adaptable, and making use of an existing commercial product for the actual stand (but could also be used with anything else that had a suitablly threaded mount).

I might even be tempted to try replacing my homebrew arrangement on at least one Stick. :)

I’m interested too!

The Puck could also be connected to the NS Boomerang strap system: https://thinkns.com/accessory/the-boome ... ap-system/

May I ask what the spec of the thread is, i.e. what type of machine screw/bolt does it take?

I ask as I'm thinking about use in different arrangements than with the NS Design stands.

With Gene's help, I found some problems to troubleshoot this past week, so this will take a little longer to get out.

The thread is 5/16"-18.
